Torless

Today was the first day without Tor (She’s on Holiday)
AS usual with the heat – several problems…

A thunder storm took out a swith and a router at one clients, replacements fixed their problems.
They were impressed with the service too – about 3 or 4 businesses were effected by the storm, only one managed to get up and running by the morning, guess which one ;)

OURS !!!
:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Then went to install a UPS at another clients.
They seem to have an issue with their switch too – time will tell…

Also we were awaiting a returns number from a supplier to return some keyboards.
The idea was we’d arrange a delivery time and send the old ones back with the same courier as the new ones arrived with.
New keyboards turned up, out of the blue, today. Whilst I was out.
Typical :D

Also looking to but a house – it’s offer time…
Lets see if it’s accepted

I think I AM coping.

nighty night…

Another day…

Another problem!

New PC, Intel 1000 PL onboard network card (built in for those non techies)
Also has 2nd internal network card.

1st card just decides to ‘lose’ it settings and can no longer communicate with the outside world (the Intel card!).
2nd Card works fine.
Oh dear – good job client only needs 1 network card then :)

Good news on the bidding for work front – We won!!
Carrying out another new install in September (due to holidays).
Looking forward to it already :D

Greets goto our international visitors from:
Australia, Turkey, Spain, Germany and India
All are welcome

Having filled up on home made Barbecued food (we had a trial run) I’m tired for once.
M’off to sleep (hopefully – it’s hot here…)

Surprise!!

First call to configure a wireless router for a clients home then whoosh…
Got a nice surprise after a memory upgrade job.
Win XP Pro machine with 128mb of memory – sooooo sloooooow :(
Other XP Pro machines with 256 – not quite so slow but…

Upgrade to 512 each machine

128 machine now flies in comparison, the other do too :)
Yea!

Then the big boss says “we are having a barbecue, want to join us?”
YES PLEASE
We had the usual fun trying to light the disposables, attempted to amputate a thumb on the edge of the grill (not mine thankfully), and almost set light to a staff members car.
What fun ;)
A burger, sausage and unidentified chicken kebab (all excellently tasty) washed down with a single beer made the lunch time complete
A few hours later now and no need to visit the hospital yet; I guess everything was cooked properly

Big thanks Kevin – I really appreciated the invite :)

g’ night all…

Sometimes

Sometimes you learn something all over again…

Today I jetted out to a client to simply configure two PCs for the network.
Whilst there the boss man came over to say hello (always a good thing methinks).
Whilst conversing he said, “Just get Simon in and it’ll be sorted”
I suddenly realised that was EXACTLY what we do… ‘Sort things’.
Of course, I already knew this, but sometimes somebody literally has to shout it at you before you see the point.

Guess I am just a naive techie after all ;)

Hoping to get some business as a direct result of a good install.
A new potential client is having a big meeting to discuss their IT systems tomorrow.
We are one of three companies bidding for the work.
We have already done some work for one of the people involved.
Let hope we done good! :)

I write this having consumed nearly a bottle of wine (Blossom Hill, Pinot Grigio – not bad :) ) so if it makes no sense please forgive me ;)

Bedtime again…

Too late…

Not sure if this is the latest entry in the blog – but it must be close!
Can’t sleep :(

This week I actually managed to install a reliable wireless network!
One that didn’t drop the connection when somebody breathed heavily.
Wireless networks are a tad unreliable IMHO ;)

Also had an enjoyable meeting about the Dwella website
Lots of additions and upgrades to do…
Quite enjoyed the meeting too – not sure why, I guess being the techie means you kinda lose track of the business side of things all too easily.

In amongst the usual virus and spyware crap which MUST fill every technicians week I finshed the week with a simple ‘secure wipe’ of several PCs and a server.
We like to finish the week with an easy job! :D
Sadly all too rare!

Think I’d better join the missus in bed…
(and get the sadistic pleasure of waking her up ;)
