Grrr…..

Spent today installing a PC specifically for labelling.
Well, that was the official reason for the visit. What actually happened was a little more involved…
It was a classic case of “While you are here, can you just…” – add appropriate labour intensive task here…

“This PC is running slowly” – Mundo examples of the latest nasty spyware striiping action later…
“The VOIP telephone system needs a DNS entry adding…” – Yeah right, more like a full DNS domain build…
“We need a remote dial in” – Telephone engineer chips in at this point “We simply connect to our 2k3 server etc etc…”
Yup – I REALLY look forward to configuring a terminal server from scratch, no planning, nada, especially since the client is running a 2000 server.
“you don’t want to use VPN, simply forward the ports etc etc…” – telephone engineer. Grrr…
I simply added a VPN router and whala! VPN dialin solved – OMG it works !!
Also the wireless that comes with this particular router is quite powerful, I could get a 100% signal clear across the other side of the premesis – the original router struggled across the office

I REALLY wish people (especially telecoms engineers, I have yet to find one that doesn’t know EVERYTHING about I.T.) would stick to what they know…

Just finshed the washing up (well, almost :D)
Bedtime…

Loooong daaaaay!

Today was quite a long day, installing a few new PCs at a clients and moving the replacements to new desks.
They were Dell PCs

From time to time I get asked “which PC should I buy?”
– the answer is simple
“Which ever YOU feel gives the best value!”

In this case (cos they have a ‘great’ service engineer – moi ;) ) they chose Dell.
Not a bad choice IF (and only IF) you have someone to turn to when it all goes wrong.

Dell supplied PCs – missing some bits.
Simple things like MS Office, DVI to VGA convertors (to make older monitors work with the new Dell kit) and product keys.
You know, just the simple things that if missing, mean the PC is inoperable.

Oh dear :(

Still – the job went fine from my point of view… :)

It was kinda funny when the guys providing the bespoke software my client uses TRIED to charge to install it.
It got a little shouty

Still – it’s always worth trying it on – if you want to lose your clients that is ;)

Sleepy me’s off to bed (pre midnight for a change – WOW!!)

Back with a bump

Back to work!!!
Not supposed to be but clients demand servicing ;)
Lets see just what happens through this week – easy or demanding..?

Had a great time off – hopefully Tor coped without me (I’d be surprised if not :) )

Purchased a PC from a supplier – Requested NO branding..
Guess what..?
Yup – branding everywhere
Also no service patches and some requested software not installed – great  :?
Fools!

Phones

Got my new phone and car kit today.
It’s a Nokia something or other, I actually found a phone that is a phone!
Not a phone with a camera personality
Not a phone with a PDA personality.
Just a phone :)
Good!
Everything seems to have ‘bits’ on, you know “added features” (AKA pointless price hikes) ;)
(Cynical? Moi??)

Spent a looooong time trying to install the blummin car kit, complete with obligatory cuts ‘n’ scrapes.
Why do they insist on changing the simple things, like the connectors to the power supply?
Looks to be almost the same…
Same colours, same pins…
Just slightly bigger; Just enough so the old one won’t fit!
Typical…
 New phone, new everything!! Grrrrrrr…..

A brave new look…

Well, what do you think?
We have moved up a gear and upgraded the blog to use the WordPress software.
I think you’ll agree, it looks MUCH better :)

Kinda shocked Tor actually posted here – she must have been REALLY unhappy ;)

Anyway – I’m suppoed to be on holiday, so I think a liquid lunch is in order.

Enjoy!
