All is quiet…

Nothing much to write home about this week so far…
Finalising the network config for a new client,
Odd errors from a client who is visually impaired (turns out to be his screen magnifying software and dodgy memory),
and a simple PC rebuild.

Things can only get worse! :|
Lets wait and see…

Complaint

Well not really a complaint but…
The recent server build we did, they called with a (tongue firmly in cheek) ‘complaint’
They’re USB keyboard leads were not long enough!
Simply fixed…

That tends to be the worst kind of complaint we get!

Also today, a client rang in with a BSOD saying ‘inaccessible boot device’.
Oh dear, HDD failure :(
They decided to replace the whole server as it was getting quite old…
This, IMHO was the right thing to do – it will save TONS of hassle and future grief.

We like informed clients! Makes the job sooooo much easier!

It’s 02:12 now – probably bedtime :D

Too late, too late!

Today we (Tor and I) finished the server install – several very happy clients!
Everything went fine – even the data transfer for the accounts, wages and bespoke database software
As expected or course ;)

Got back to the office, tidied up the paper work and ended my day around 18:00 ish

Went down stairs to cook the evening meal (dinner or tea? you decide!) at around 19:00
Just ‘browning’ the meat balls a la the recipe and the phone rings…
It’s a client with whom we work quite closely.
They can’t VPN into the office to backup the accounts data and the accountant is working on them as we spoke.
#Turns off the meatballs# They’ll just have to wait…
VPN in,
Backup accounts data,
Mail to accountant.
Phone to say finished

Job done and a VERY relieved and happy client :)

AND the meatballs were very nice too!! (eventually!!)

Glad to have been of service Sam :D

Some days it never ends

A good day

Today was indeed a good day…
…Apart from the lifting bits.

Installed a new client – server network into a new clients premises.
Taking them from an old “PC pretending to be a server” solution – you know the one where the ‘technical expert’ installs a client PC into a peer-to-peer network and claims it is the server.
Now they have a proper Windows 2003 SBS server system.
AND 5 shiny new PCs to play with (these are upgrades form PIII systems – whoosh ;))

All went well, just a bit of a tidy up due tomorrow.

Nightie night…

1st days back

Back at work properly now (though I still feel kinda off)

Spent the first day back at a clients ALL afternoon and into the evening
I left at 19:20
Nothing like taking it easy on the first day back then ;)

Today I spent rebuilding and finalising pre-built systems from a supplier.
The motherboards in these PCs do not support optical boot devices on the secondary IDE channel.
Put simply, the usual way to install a CD-ROM was to place it onto the secondary channel and use it to install an operating system.
These systems have a newer system as (and I quote) “SATA is replacing IDE”
It seems the ‘new improved’ way of building a system is to use a SATA hard disc and use the primary IDE for the CD-ROM (thus allowing you to boot from it)

Huge apologies for getting a little technical there :)
I had to get it off my chest – thanks for the therapy !

Tomorrow it’s another of my favourites, a new server install – this one with 5 client PCs
(yup – recently rebuilt and finalised ;))

Now I’m off to bed with a book…
