Negative selling

I have a new skill!
I call it negative selling…
It’s where you talk clients out of spending silly amounts of money on unnecessary things :)

Case 1
Client was misunderstood by web developers…
Mentioned the fact that she wanted to amend web pages on her own – developer thinks Content Management System.
We call the devleoper and save the client £££s by pointing out the fact she meant news and new services on static pages.
Solution: Install Contribute

Case 2
Client had an idea about an interactive whiteboard…
Quick conversation saying what they were and how they worked – mentioned the price too
Solution: Client decided that £2k was a little steep for what they wanted.

Not sure weather to be please or not…
:?

Effin Vista!

Having spent a good week attempting to tackle Microsoft’s behemoth AKA Vista, I’m sure you can imagine the overflowing joy I feel when the effin b’stard decided that blue was a great colour for the desktop, that festooned with wonderful white writing informing me of a ‘Fatal Error’

Grr…

Not only that but I feel positively euphoric on reading that the fix was to ‘reinstall Vista’

I have a phrase for these moments and it’s none too polite…

All day spent rebuilding the machine to gain what? A working system??
Nope!
Just imagine the feelings when Microsoft Office decided it was going to provide me with hours of endless fun with a “Installation has detected registry errors”
Great :(

Pass the Prozac…

Tomorrow I’m doing a presentation on the wee beastie – Perhaps it might come across as a bit negative?

Spam, spam, spam…

There’s a blast from the past :) For those of you old enough and English enough ;)

I wish that there was some way to TOTALLY nuke spam on t’net.
It is single the thing we get asked most often, “I get lots of spam, how can I stop it?”
There is also a statistic I read somewhere, that stated 95% of all eMail traffic was spam, that is 95% of over 4.1 billion emails everyday!
It’s a staggering amount!

Yesterday (and for a couple of days) we’ve had a client with ADSL issues – It seems to have just stopped working :(
Looks like a line fault.
Client got extremely confused about who his line supplier was, he thought I meant the broadband supplier. Finally got there though
Hoping today that we can get him sorted (even though it’s not really our issue!)

Trial and tribulation

…Edited at a clients request…

Also having some fun with Vista.
IMHO it’s really not worth upgrading at the moment – I have about a 5% performance hit (over Windows XP) AND some users are reporting difficulty finding good drivers.
It’s taken a good 4 days or so trying to get things working in the way I want.
Fun fun fun!!!

Broke my central locking too – £350 kick in the proverbials
