You guessed it

~ It’s been a while since I had a moan about BT - mainly ‘cos we’ve not had cause to have to use them for a bit. That changed recently…
Brand new line installation,
Brand new broadband installation,
Brand new hardware to make it all work.
53 minutes in and all goes to hell in a hand cart :(
The broadband drops about every 10 minutes, intolerable. A brief test shows that the line doesn’t work properly (no voice or dial tone)
Looks like BT have NO QA (Quality Assurance) – not too surprised really, just have an angry customer…

Also – probably of interest to a minor selection of my readers:
Captcha is broken - the security things where you type in a few distorted letters has been cracked.
“Spam, spam, spam, spam. Spam, spam, spam, spam.”

Oh dear :(

Got hurt by the physio too – now I have to exercise. Time to attend to that Greek godlike frame of mine ;)

Complicated

We had a meeting with a client wanting to have a web portal for their clients to order stuff online - this would not be pen to the public though, only to customers with accounts.
Sounded simple so far…
The client has individual price lists for clients though – all 1000 of them!
These can also be updated on a daily basis!
Time I got my thinking cap on to figure this one out then…
It might be a BIG upload.

Off to have some physio tomorrow – I’m a bit worried, but I know it’ll do some good. If I can get my wrist back ASAP then I’ll be a happy chicken.
I’m sick of the damn thing hurting. It constantly surprises me just how much it hurts; 5 weeks after damaging it.

Hmm…

Speeeeeeed

A client’s wife popped over today – her laptop was really slooooooooow (and that’s putting it mildly!)
It took about 5 minutes to get to a working position from booting.
A little Rochey magic…
It now boots in about 90 seconds :D
Happy client…

Managed to spend some time discussing pricing a ‘new’ product we are thinking of offering – We just need to locate the ‘right’ software to support it…

Also managed to get some web development in – the new home site is coming along nicely :)

All in all, a good day.
It also looks like I’m going to get an early night…!

Scared

Not sure why but I scared myself today.
I’d gone to see a new client with network errors, their server was missing some essential network bits.
Further investigation revealed this was a more fundamental problem than first thought.
When I applied one of Microsoft’s own fixes (and rebooted the server) nobody could access the network. :(
I had that sudden sinking feeling… What had I done??
Luckily I had not deleted the files as Microsoft had asked, but moved them into a temporary location.
Replaces stuff…
Reboots server again…
All back to where it was :)

Phew!!!

I was so relieved – I thanked god MANY times on the way back to the office..!
As a kind of therepy I built a clients website – looking quite good too. :)

Sleepy time…

iPhone

What a piece of rubbish!
This “highly acclaimed’ item of technology I got my tiny mitts on for the first time today.
Now I’m the first to admit that I’m not impressed by mobile phone technology – I’m afraid that the phone should be A PHONE in my honest opinion, if I want a picture I’ll buy a camera! etc…
I was charged with getting this thing to communicate with the email and a new wireless network I had just installed.
Easy right?
Nope!
I had to connect it to an existing network to configure the email – the details of which were quite long (the client has a long name and a long domain name). Just getting all the details in and the phone itself rings, resulting in ALL the info I had just inputted being wiped out – the fourth time this happened I was seriously unimpressed!
Would it have been too difficult to add some kind of cut ‘n’ paste facility?
Then the blummin’ thing took AGES to “authenticate” the account before saving it – Why couldn’t it just save the details THEN test them? (this is why several times the phone rang)

If you are confguring an iPhone, do it at 2:00AM, you might not get called then!

I also had to reboot the thing twice!
What a pile of… well, you get the picture! :!:

Grrr….
