Timing

Oddly enough it looks like I’ll be acting as an Expert Witness again.
Strange how it goes…

Nothing much to report again really.
Tor’s been out doing some networking, I’ve performed my usual technical miracles and business as usual.

Just another mundane day at the office (this is a GOOD thing! sometimes it gets too stressful) :D

Here’s a story I heard, ’bout texting and abbreviations – you know, the usual C U L8 R type thing.

There was an older woman who, upon hearing that a close friend of a friend had passed away, thought that sending a text message with condolences would be a nice idea.
Not being gifted with technology, she decided that she’d write the message as:
“So sorry to hear of your friends passing. Lots of Love…”
Unfortunately she decided to use the abbreviation for ‘lots of love’ as L.O.L. (usually translated as ‘laughing out loud’) and sent:
“So sorry to hear of your friends passing. Lol…”

Oops!

Huh??

I have, from time to time, to act as a liaison for clients. Usually this is between software and hardware people, sometimes its an Internet thing.
I have also acted as a legal ‘Expert Witness’ on a few occasions too. Currently winning 100% of the cases I have acted in :D

Today I had a conversation with a software development house who seem to have little interest in enhancing their product – this is something I see fairly often.
It seems that some companies develop software – spend time and money getting the product to the top of the tree (sometimes this is by default as there is nothing else that performs the task) – only to sit back on their laurels and milk the market for everything they can get.
The comment was ‘It’s something we get asked for regularly’!
Hmm…
Maybe there is something your clients are trying to tell you!

Looks like we’ll have to develop a ‘sister’ application ourselves then…

One trick pony?

I have a talent for I.T. – it just seems to work for me. Sometimes I just have to be in the same room for something that “never ‘effin works” to suddenly get with the program and spring to life.
In my chosen career, it’s a good thing too! :D

I have other talents too, things that I seem to have a natural affinity to.

I seem to have problems though, with the dull things of normal life though, it’s not uncommon to hear the phrase “Good at I.T., bad at the rest of life”.
For instance, I really have problems getting lost (God bless Sat Navs).
Problems with timekeeping (one client said I run on ‘Rochester time’ ).
Problems with being a little clumsy (especially when tired or nor concentrating).
There are many more!

I am told that these are all symptoms of Dyslexia – something that has been suspected for a LONG time, and only recently been confirmed.
Yeah!
Now I have an excuse for being an imbecile!
Maybe I can use this excuse if I’m ever in need of a ‘get out of jail free’ card – it seems to work with the authorities for all sorts of things. You never know when that sort of thing could come in handy ;)

I amuses me that we like to put things like this, in little boxes with a label on – what used to be called bad behaviour is now A.D.D., being a little blue and sluggish in Winter is S.A.D. etc.
Are there any things that are simply what they are, or is EVERYTHING a result of some ‘syndrome’ or other?

In my own mind I put things in place to overcome my shortcomings.
I KNOW what I am like, so I work around things. Isn’t that the normal thing to do?
I KNOW I tend to forget where I have put things, so I have a place for everything etc…
I might indeed be Dyslexic, but it make no difference really. I’m still the same old useless, lump who is good with technology. It’s not something I’m going to use as some kind of shield or badge. It’s just the combination of stuff that I’m not good at.

Bittersweet

T’was a strange day today…

I am on holiday – it’s my birthday on the 18th so I try to take the week – and I awoke with the mother of all headaches. :(
I am prone to the occasional migraine, the proper type, not just a headache…
This morning it began with trouble understanding basic words (I had the radio on) and rapidly progressed on to the early stages of my person ‘aura’ – It feels like I am holding something in my left hand (kinda like a sponge ball), and I get pins and needles in my hand and arm.
Usually at this point it’s the ‘get some drugs NOW’ stage – or I get the fully blown, in bed for 24-48 hours, vomiting and SEVERE headaches, feeling like like dying.
Luckily, this time, I caught it before it got that bad. A couple of tablets and an immediate retreat to bed, followed by about 2-3 hours sleep meant I could function for the day. :D

Hopefully you’ll NEVER know just what a relief that was!

I also heard that a long standing friend and business colleague went into ‘voluntary administration
This is hard to hear…
Though, on the bright side, it’s also a time to seek new opportunities..

Good luck in whatever you decide and STAY IN TOUCH!!
