I have a talent for I.T. – it just seems to work for me. Sometimes I just have to be in the same room for something that “never ‘effin works” to suddenly get with the program and spring to life.
In my chosen career, it’s a good thing too!
I have other talents too, things that I seem to have a natural affinity to.
I seem to have problems though, with the dull things of normal life though, it’s not uncommon to hear the phrase “Good at I.T., bad at the rest of life”.
For instance, I really have problems getting lost (God bless Sat Navs).
Problems with timekeeping (one client said I run on ‘Rochester time’ ).
Problems with being a little clumsy (especially when tired or nor concentrating).
There are many more!
I am told that these are all symptoms of Dyslexia – something that has been suspected for a LONG time, and only recently been confirmed.
Yeah!
Now I have an excuse for being an imbecile!
Maybe I can use this excuse if I’m ever in need of a ‘get out of jail free’ card – it seems to work with the authorities for all sorts of things. You never know when that sort of thing could come in handy
I amuses me that we like to put things like this, in little boxes with a label on – what used to be called bad behaviour is now A.D.D., being a little blue and sluggish in Winter is S.A.D. etc.
Are there any things that are simply what they are, or is EVERYTHING a result of some ‘syndrome’ or other?
In my own mind I put things in place to overcome my shortcomings.
I KNOW what I am like, so I work around things. Isn’t that the normal thing to do?
I KNOW I tend to forget where I have put things, so I have a place for everything etc…
I might indeed be Dyslexic, but it make no difference really. I’m still the same old useless, lump who is good with technology. It’s not something I’m going to use as some kind of shield or badge. It’s just the combination of stuff that I’m not good at.
