ITs bad

HELP! A cry we hear often after someone 'tried' to fix it.

HELP! A cry we hear often after someone 'tried' to fix it.

I was asked to pop over to a new clients house this afternoon – they had had a competitor out who had ‘tried’ to fix the issues
Mainly these were connectivity issues; email and Internet. Something I see all the time…

Off I popped across this fair city of Leeds to distant climes.

As usual I introduced myself – we hadn’t met before and I’m nothing if not polite – and let the client(s husband and wife) explain the issues.

Internet Explorer would crash and ‘Search for a solution’ that never came…
It took me about 2 minutes to fix that one (and the client was VERY surprised!).

Outlook would fail sending email with a SMTP error…
That  one took a little longer, about 20 minutes (it was a little convoluted because of the interaction with the virus protection).

Whilst doing this I noticed that there was some spy-ware installed and a little house keeping needed
So I cleaned the systems, installed a couple of FREE applications, taught them how to use them, and left happy clients with speedy systems.

My new client had a rant about the other guys service – £300 bill and the systems were not fixed, but were WORSE than when they came! :(
There are  some real cowboys doing this job.

Web devs

Website developers. A breed apart

Website developers. A breed apart

Web Developers seem to be a different breed!

Before I go any further i HAVE to say – Jaimie from iNet engineers is a GOD SEND!!
A web dev who actually CARES about what he does, whom you CAN speak to, and who does what he says he will when he says he will!
AMAZING!!
(there’s a link to his blog on the  bottom right of the side bar…)!

Anyhow…

I have a client, he paid for a website.
The web developer built a website (not very good IMHO). :???:
The client mentioned an update, which the developer developed.
OOPS – the client never made a formal request, the developer wrote the software off his own back.
When the authors of the software they use to run their business added exactly what the client wanted for free (the client knew this was coming but thought it might have been a chargeable update), they told the developer; Who promptly threw teddies out of pram…
Now my client is “of so little importance” that he doesn’t bother to turn up to meetings OR respond to the clients requests.

He’s lost the business to us now… :D

A special kind of stupid

A special kind of stupid

A special kind of stupid for this donkey award…

I popped in to the chippy t’other day, I had to pass a Police incident to get in…
The Police had arrested one guy and were man handling another to the ground.

The story made me laugh and laugh.
Apparently there was a guy in the chippy, just in front of two UNIFORMED Police officers.
The guy walks out of the chippy and decides to wheel spin out of the car park.
Unsurprisingly the Police stop said man – who is drunk driving!!

Arrested (and should have been neutered to stop him polluting the gene pool)

The other guy thought he’d make his feelings about the Police known – loudly.

Stupid, stupid stupid…

Suicidal MPs

Westminster MPs feeling suicidal

Westminster MPs feeling suicidal

So MPs feel suicidal because of the ‘Witch hunt’ over the expenses scandal.

I HAVE NO SYMPAHTY!!

Most of the MPs revealed as exploiting the system seem to have little to no morals, and are so unapologetic as to seem almost smug about what they’ve done. NOBODY HELD A GUN TO YOUR HEAD AND SAID “CLAIM” DID THEY?

The individuals involved have only brought this on themselves…

The defense “its the system that’s wrong, not me” just doesn’t wash. JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN, DOESN’T MEAN YOU SHOULD!
I feel sorry for the minority of MPs who have been legitimately claiming expenses that are related solely to their work. They are getting tarred by the immoral brush.

With the average expenses claim exceeding the national average wage by a factor of around 5x it’s no wonder that the British public is outraged.

The offenders should be investigated by the Police and the Fraud squad and punished in a court of law as befits the crime.
It’s not helped by the Conservative MPs complaining that the Freedom of Information Act has revealed that they have had their sticky little fingers in the public coffers.
Claiming that the critics of his outrageous expenses claims are “jealous” of his country house and that ministers had “mucked up the system” by introducing the Act are incredible.
If ministers have ‘mucked up’ a covert system where by MANY MPs were STEALING money from the public (in what IMHO is criminal and there should be an investigation over it) this can only be a good thing.

Politicians need to remember they are appointed as public servants and are in their positions because the public trusted them. This whole situation has sent a very strong message saying that some MPs are not to be trusted and should IMMEDIATELY be kicked out.

It’s galling the totally inappropriate and pathetic gestures the party leaders are offering as ‘punishment’. The offenders should be investigated by the Police and the Fraud squad and punished in a court of law as befits the crime.

I heard on the radio that the benefits office is having difficulty bringing cases against benefit fraudsters who now claim to have made a mistake filling in the form. How can a magistrate punish someone with this defense when OUR ELECTED LEADERS are doing the same thing?

It makes me sick to think that such corruption exists in this country.

This is an expression of my own PERSONAL anger and frustration of the MPs expenses scandal, it no way represents anything else!

Weather

I got bloomin' soaked ~ How I LOVE the British weather...

I got bloomin' soaked ~ How I LOVE the British weather...

Now I had a meeting in Chapel Allerton this morning, and off I did dutifully pop. driving was mostly ‘interesting’ thanks to a high DPH factor…
I’d better explain a little, DPH is a theory I’ve been developing over the last few years ~ it goes something like this:

D – short for d***heads
P – short for per
H – short for hour

DPH – D***heads per Hour…
DPH fluctuates thanks to certain coefficients

  • Proximity to schools at starting and leaving times
  • Quantity of precipitation
  • Proximity of busy motorway junctions
  • Duration available for journey
  • % of drivers wearing of head apparel
  • Volume of dance music
  • You get the idea… :???:

So, this morning – passed 2 schools, raining heavily and left (as usual) at the last minute = High DPH.
Arrived ~ sat in car waiting for a lull in the torrent from above ~ went for a ‘gap’ ~ God exercised his ironic sense of humour as I exited the car just at the peak of the downpour.

I RAN to the clients meeting and arrived DRENCHED!
Had a good meeting though. :D

Sigh…

Chaos

Traffic chaos on the M62 ~ Approx 30 miles of standing traffic

Traffic chaos on the M62 ~ Approx 30 miles of standing traffic

Absolute chaos on the M62 today ~ an accident involving a lorry, blocked the motorway, causing it to be closed for most of the day!
I feel so sorry for the people involved in the accident AND those stuck in the ensuing traffic jams :(
I hate to think of the cost to businesses in wasted time (and therefore money).

Let’s play with the maths…

Average car length = 13.5 feet
There are 5280 feet in a mile
30 miles of tailback = 391 effected cars
391 * 3 (lanes on the motorway) * 1.58 (average car occupancy in Leeds)  = 55616 people effected
Average wage (2008) £24,908 ÷ 52 weeks = £479 per week = £12.77 per hour

12.77 x 55616 = £710,401.70 per hour!!!

Ouch!

I had to join the M62 to visit a client in Selby. Luckily I have a Sat Nav with a traffic avoidance thing built in :D
It took me to the first available junction on the Motorway AFTER the closure ~ there was almost nothing else going my way (it was, without doubt, the BEST trip on the M62 I’d EVER experienced).
I did clock almost 14 miles of standing traffic ~ that was this morning.
I also felt a little sad at the people just before the tailback, zooming up to it; Never realising just what lay ahead :(

14 issues (all resolved) and a LOT of travelling later (between the client branches), I finally got home @ 18:50
Another late one then…
